LOCKPORT – Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III imposed a one-year jail sentence Thursday on a Niagara Falls man who was charged with attacking a neighbor with a golf club.
Dennis C. Jeffrey, 51, of Ashland Avenue, also known as Dennis Townsend, already has served the time for the July 19, 2013, incident. But he remains behind bars, serving a 20-month parole violation sentence for a 1995 drug and stolen property conviction.
On May 21, a jury convicted Jeffrey of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, rejecting a felony assault charge. It failed to reach a verdict on a felony weapons possession count. On June 12, Jeffrey accepted a misdemeanor weapons plea offer with a concurrent sentence.
The assault came after the neighbor dragged a downed tree limb into a parking lot and left it next to a vehicle belonging to Jeffrey’s girlfriend. Jeffrey was concerned that high winds night push the branch against the vehicle.
