If you just can’t wait for the early August opening of the Erie County Fair, you can get a sneak preview, actually taste, today.

Food is considered the No. 1 reason people attend the annual fair, so if your appetite is the same as past years, make room for these new features:

• Three heritage barbecue chicken vendors plan to hold the largest chicken barbecue in the region’s history

• Food Truck Round Up – area food trucks will make their first-ever Erie County Fair appearance Sunday, Aug. 10

• Taste of the Fair – First-time “taste-style” menu will feature 100-plus fair foods for $1.75 per serving on Thursday, Aug. 14

• Flavor of the Fair – Nick Charlap’s Ice Cream, of Boston, N.Y., will unveil its limited edition, novelty ice cream flavor specifically created for the 175th fair.

The preview is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today in the Firemen’s Building at Midway Park on the fairgrounds, 5820 South Park Ave., Hamburg.

Fair representatives and food vendors are holding a news conference to discuss new menu items and food-related events for the Fair, which will be held Aug. 6 to 17.

Food vendors attending include: Ryan Gerber of Weidner BBQ; John Pericak of Chiavetta’s Catering Service; Bruce Will of B.W.’s Barbecue Ltd.; Nick Charlap of Nick Charlap’s Ice Cream; and LouAnn Brown of Food Bank of WNY.

Other points of discussion will be about the fair’s partnership with Food Bank of WNY Canned Good Drive/Admission Discount program, as well as answering the popular question: What are vendors going to fry this year?
