A City of Buffalo employee has been charged with stealing scrap metal from the Department of Public Works barn on the 200 block of Broadway, authorities said.

Christopher Beard, 31, a DPW worker, was charged June 23 with grand larceny for allegedly taking metal from the facility, according to police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge.

City officials are continuing their investigation into the thefts and Beard is listed as “off without pay.” The officials are also taking steps that may lead to his dismissal.
