Orius is a local band that produces melodic power metal music. They officially formed in 2012, and Ryan Skerrett, Dan Carr, James Brown and Mike Paquette, all in their late 20s and early 30s, will be releasing their first EP on Saturday. The five-song EP is titled “Past Prologue.”
This is a proud moment for the band. Skerrett, lead singer, was close to giving up on a music career and selling his instruments and equipment when his childhood friend, Carr, stopped him. Carr asked Skerrett to listen to some riffs the other two future members had created. He liked the sound, and the rest is history.
“We’ve put a lot of work into this,” Skerrett said of the EP’s release. The band loves performing live, he added, with shows at such clubs as Nietzsche’s and The Forvm.
The EP launch will be marked by a show at Broadway Joe’s (3051 Main St.) on Saturday night. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $5. Weaponex, Herod and Deadiron (from Cleveland) also will perform.
