LOCKPORT – State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. said Wednesday he will probably sentence a Niagara Falls man to up to a year in the Niagara County Jail for having an illegal handgun.

John J. Parker III, 22, of D Street, Niagara Falls, pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said the loaded .380-caliber handgun was found by Parker’s probation officer March 29. Parker was on probation for a third-degree assault conviction from 2012.

Kloch told Parker that if he changes his mind about sentencing at the next court date Sept. 19, he will let Parker cancel his guilty plea. The maximum sentence for the crime is seven years in state prison.
