Beatriz Lasalle Cintron, a severely disabled girl whose visit to her family’s home last Christmas was the subject of heartwarming feature stories in the media, died July 7 in Women & Children’s Hospital. She had just turned 5.

Given less than 72 hours to live after she was born in Puerto Rico, she was brought to Buffalo by her mother for medical help and therapy before her first birthday.

A resident of HighPointe’s pediatric skilled-nursing facility on Michigan Avenue, she required a breathing tube and was dependent on oxygen.

On Christmas morning, with the help of staff from HighPointe and Rural/Metro Medical Services, she was taken by ambulance to her mother’s Marine Drive apartment to visit for a few hours and receive presents.

It was the first time she had ever spent the holiday with her family.

Survivors include her mother, Iesha, and her grandmother, Gail.

Services were private.
