Amherst man injured in Lockport crash blamed on medical condition

LOCKPORT – An Amherst man was injured when his car crashed into a ditch about 8:50 a.m. Wednesday in the 6200 block of South Transit Road.

Donald F. Ficarra, 70, was driving north on Route 78 when his car went off the road, hit a culvert pipe and then went airborne, state police said. Ficarra, police added, suffered from a medical condition that triggered the crash, and no charges will be filed.

Tghe driver was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, police added.
