OLCOTT — The U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards’ search of Lake Ontario for a boat reported to be sinking was suspended late Monday night, officials said.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a radio call at 2:38 p.m. Monday from a male boater who said, “Help ... my boat’s going down!”

Detection devices showed the boat was off Olcott at the time of the call, a U.S. Coast Guard officer said.

U.S. Coast Guard Station Niagara and Canadian air and float crews were unsuccessful in searching the lake, from Olcott to the northern suburbs of Toronto, the officer said. New York State Park Police searched the upper Niagara River and northern end of Grand Island.

It is unknown whether there were other passengers on the boat.
