Chef’s venture into the pizzeria business will be a brief one.
Chef’s Garage Pizza, the spin-off pizzeria experiment that opened as a branch of the popular Buffalo restaurant two months ago, will close on Saturday, owner Lou Billittier Jr. announced recently on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
It became too difficult for the pizzeria and restaurant to coexist when patrons sought to order pizza while dining in, conflicting with Billittier’s vision to keep the operations separate.
“We put countless hours of research and development into this venture,” Billittier wrote. “The community was very receptive ... My goal was always to keep the restaurant and the pizza venture separate entities, and at the end of the day, this became impossible.”
Billittier also cited his desire to avoid infringing upon the business of other existing pizzerias as a reason for ending the trial run.
Saturday will be the final day for customers to redeem gift cards exclusive to Chef’s Garage Pizza.
Billittier said the restaurant will continue to offer pizza to its catering customers, including the Goos Sunrise breakfast pizza. Chef’s donates $1 to the Music is Art Foundation with each order.
