Two officers injured in police chase that ends in crash near Kensington

Two Buffalo police officers were injured in a chase Sunday night before the subject of the chase crashed his vehicle near the Kensington Expressway and was arrested on eight felony charges.

Police said they were in pursuit of a stolen car, a 2008 Ford Edge driven by Marus J. Andrews, 39, of Gorski Street, who was spotted driving north on Edison Avenue. Andrews, however, fled, hitting two patrol vehicles and injuring the two officers before crashing a mile away at Berwyn and Burlington avenues, Northeast District police said.

As Andrews emerged from the vehicle, police said, he dropped a bag containing crack cocaine, marijuana and half of a blue pill.

Andrews is charged with aggravated assault upon a police officer, aggravated vehicular assault, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree assault, second-degree unlawful fleeing from a police officer and third-degree criminal mischief. He was also charged with several misdemeanors and vehicle and traffic charges, including unauthorized use of a vehicle. His license was suspended, police said.
