Steven J. Fliesler, Meyer H. Riwchun Endowed Chair Professor of Ophthalmology in the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, was elected to the board of trustees of the eye research society the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. This is his second major honor from ARVO this year. Last month, Fliesler, who also is a research health scientist at the Veterans Affairs Western New York Healthcare System, was formally inducted into ARVO as a Gold Fellow, placing him in an elite group of international vision researchers. Fliesler will serve a five-year term on the board.


The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation appointed Dale B. Demyanick to its board of trustees. Demyanick is a tax partner at Lumsden & McCormick. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Daemen College.


Phillips Lytle partner Douglas W. Dimitroff recently took part in an international seminar on Cross Border Business Strategies, in Oakville, Ont. The event, hosted by Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, targeted Canadian companies looking to do business in the United States. Dimitroff discussed the legal requirements.

Carleton Technologies, Orchard Park, was awarded an $833,739 federal contract for PHANTOM life support system from the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command, Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico.


MVP Network Consulting, Buffalo, was awarded a $26,751 federal contract for the maintenance of Avocent KvM system from the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command, Newport News, Va.


Noco donated $25,000 to the Canisius College Locker Room Project in support of the Canisius College Division I men’s ice hockey program moving to the HarborCenter facility downtown.
