PORTLAND, N.Y. – An Erie, Pa., man was charged with driving while intoxicated and felony violation of Leandra’s Law after he was stopped by Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies Saturday morning.

A deputy on road patrol on Route 5 in the Town of Portland saw a westbound car make several unsafe lane changes, according to the sheriff’s office. Upon stopping the car at 11:33 a.m., they determined that the driver, Alex J. Aviles-Sanchez, 31, of Erie, Pa., was intoxicated. Because he had two children under age 16 in the car, in addition to DWI, he was changed with felony violation of Leandra’s Law and making unsafe lane changes.

Aviles-Sanchez was arraigned in the Town of Portland Court where he was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail with no bail.
