Riverside woman arrested in drug theft

A Riverside woman is accused of stealing thousands of prescription pain pills and other controlled substances from a West Side drug store where she worked over the last several months, Buffalo police said Thursday.

Candita Roman, 51, of Beatrice Avenue, was stopped by the manager of the Rite Aid pharmacy on the 200 block of Connecticut Street just before 9 p.m. Wednesday and found to be in possession of Suboxone, a medication used to help wean drug users from their opiate addictions.

But, an investigation determined Roman had been stealing from the pharmacy since March, taking 1,400 hydrocodone tablets; 600 Alprazolam tablets; 750 Clonazepam tablets and 15 boxes of Suboxone containing dozens of oral strips of the medication, all of it valued at $6,672, Central District police said.

Roman admitted to selling some of the drugs to make money, according to arresting Police Officers Brian Connors and Eric J. Kross. Also assisting in the arrest was district Detective Edward Cotter.

Roman was charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substances, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.
