Attempted armed robbery in Randolph spurs investigation

RANDOLPH — An attempted armed robbery took place Thursday morning at Cold Spring and Ireland roads in the Town of Randolph, Jamestown-based State Police reported.

At about 6:10 a.m., a good samaritan approached a man believed to be working on his minivan at the intersection and asked him if he needed help. The man turned around holding a knife and demanded the samaritan’s wallet and car keys. The samaritan retreated to his vehicle following a struggle. The suspect entered the passenger side of the minivan and fled, police said.

The suspect was described as a thin, black male in his 30s, about 5-foot-10 and wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap. A heavy set, white woman with brown hair and wearing a purple shirt was operating the vehicle.

Police are appealing to the public for help in locating the minivan, which is black with a red peace symbol on the back window and has Pennsylvania license plates.

Anyone with information about the van or the suspect is asked to call police at (716) 665-3114.
