Pomfret considering cooperative property revaluations

FREDONIA – Pomfret Town Board members will invite leaders from neighboring municipalities to talk about a shared project to revaluate properties.

At the regular meeting Wednesday in Town Hall, a letter was read from Dunkirk Councilwoman-at-Large Stephanie Kiyak asking if the town had any interest in conducting property revaluations.

Town Councilwoman Ann Eckman said she is interested in coordinating a meeting on the topic and inviting leaders from the city and the towns of Portland and Dunkirk.

The Town of Pomfret currently has a property equalization rate of slightly more than 20 percent. It has not completed a revaluation since 1974.

Eckman said she will invite representatives from companies that perform revaluations to attend a workshop at 6 p.m. Sept. 3. Town Board members agreed that a shared project may bring savings to the entire region.

On another issue, the tax warrant report was filed with the Town Board on Wednesday. A total of $6.8 million in town taxes was collected in 2014 against a warrant of $7.7 million. The outstanding balance was said to be average, compared with the amount collected over the past few years.

In other matters:

• Board members approved a quote from DFT Communications to upgrade 12 computers to Microsoft Office 2013 at a cost of $2,033.

• Town Clerk Allison Dispense received a $100 scholarship and was awarded her registered municipal clerk’s certification from the New York State Town Clerk’s Association.

• Board members announced that all water line installations have been completed in the water district. New customers wanting to join the district will be required to contact the town clerk’s office for the procedure.
