Music sales slump, with one surprise exception

The latest music sales figures are in, and the good news is ...

Vinyl is booming!

Vinyl record sales in the United States are up almost 40 percent from last year, which had already seen a big increase.

As a whole, music sales news is rather bleak, and records still amount to only 3 percent of the market. But still, this boost is good news for all of us who appreciate the rich sound and feel of vinyl. Records have not died the death that was predicted, that is for sure.

British music journalist Norman Lebrecht took notice across the pond. Four million records have been sold so far in the U.S., he pointed out, and over eight million are predicted for the year. This corroborates what News Pop Music Critic Jeff Miers wrote a couple of months ago about vinyl rebounding in Buffalo.
