LOCKPORT – Wednesday is the last day to order butterflies for Niagara Hospice’s 11th annual Memorial Butterfly Release, to be held from 1 to 3 p.m. July 19 in the Memorial Gardens, located behind Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport.
The event is open to the community. Organizers invite families and individuals to release butterflies in memory or in honor of someone special to them. In addition to the release, there will be other activities, including a bounce house, kids’ games, balloon art, refreshments, and live music by Step in Time.
Butterflies, hand-painted sun catchers and butterfly plants may be purchased by calling 280-0766 or online at www.NiagaraHospice.org.
Mandy Raff, Hospice’s special events and volunteer coordinator, said more than 350 butterflies are released into the gardens each year. “The butterfly release is definitely one of our most-loved events,” Raff said. “It provides an opportunity for families and individuals to celebrate the people closest to them, and it brings the community together in a very special way.”
