Alec Peinkofer of the University at Buffalo turned in an impressive showing in the USATF Junior National Championships in Eugene, Ore., over the weekend with an eighth-place finish in the 3,000 meters steeplechase.

The Baldwinsville native ran it in 9:42.41, ranking fifth among college freshman entered in the event. Bailey Roth, running unattached, won in 9:03.92.

During his freshman season at UB, Peinkofer’s best time in the event was 9:03.45, good for a third-place finish in the Mid-American Conference Outdoor championships in Athens, Ohio on May 17.
