Lockport man accused of detonating M-80s at convenience store parking lot

WHEATFIELD – Fireworks worth $350 were seized from a Lockport man detonating powerful M-80 firecrackers in a convenience store parking lot Thursday night, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.

Ray C. Watterson, 70, of Lakewood Drive, was charged with two counts of having unrestrained rear-seat passengers age 6 or younger and unlawfully dealing with fireworks. Deputies, who responded to a complaint, said Watterson was setting off fireworks at Bailey’s Food Mart on Lockport Road about 8:40 p.m.

The suspect was stopped as he drove off, with 3- and 6-year-olds unrestrained in the pickup cab and a stash of fireworks in the pickup bed, deputies said.
