Festivals forever: The Weekend

This weekend is a little light on festivals, and I'm sure you know why.

Maybe you're suffering from an Independence Day hangover -- not necessarily alcohol-related, but that's entirely possible. You could have singed your finger on the grill (pretending it was a hot dog, of course), become a little too zealous in leaping after a Frisbee or wound up enraged because your not-so-well liked cousin accidentally kicked your treasured Black-Eyed Susan.

Regardless, Western New York has taken a bit of a hiatus from major festivals for a weekend, for recovery (or bender?) purposes. But there are still a few!

On Saturday, the BPO takes a rural excursion to fill the hills of Ellicottville with brass and strings on Day 2 of the Ellicottville Summer Music Festival, while the Gin Blossoms of "Hey Jealousy" (video at the bottom as a refresher) and "Follow You Down" fame close out the weekend with a musical extravaganza on Sunday.

Not to toot our French horn too loudly, but The Buffalo News presents Summer Jazz at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery on Sunday, the first of a summer-long weekly concert series. The Bobby Jones Trio leads off the pack, joined by Buffalo Jazz Ensemble founder and esteemed sax player Phil DiRe. He must own the record for capitals in an eight-letter name.

Here's all the logistical info you need to know about these festivals (go here for our full Gusto Festival Guide):
