MAYVILLE – A 35-year-old Portland man was ticketed for aggravated unlicensed driving and crossing road hazard markings even though he was taken by ambulance to Brooks Memorial Hospital after his westbound car overturned on Route 20 in the Town of Portland and ended in a ditch.

Richard E. Brown allegedly ignored a road hazard marker and he veered off the road, drove over an elevated part of the ditch and struck a tree after rolling over. Brown got out of the vehicle by himself but was taken to the hospital for a checkup. He was charged by Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies after they found his license had been revoked. He faces Portland Town Court proceedings in several weeks. Portland EMS and Brocton Fire crews assisted at the scene.
