Nick Casal will return to the ring Aug. 15 at Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, Calif., as part of the main event on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights telecast.
Casal, 28, faces Francisco Santana (20-3-1, 9 KOs) in a six-rounder that will mark his return to the sport after a hiatus of nearly three years following a vicious attack that left Casal with head and arm injuries.
“It’s the right time,” Casal’s trainer/father Ray said. “It’s the perfect time for this fight.”
Nick Casal has been idle since stopping Michael Anderson in the third round in October 2011 at Staple Center in Los Angeles while fighting on Bernard Hopkins undercard.
Casal (22-4-1, 17 KOs) was supposed to have already embarked on his comeback but had a scheduled fight last February at Niagara Falls Conference Center scrapped the day before the show when two prospective foes flunked their physicals.
A win would likely vault Casal into the top 10 in world rankings, Ray Casal said.
The other main event on the card features lightweight Rustam Nugaev against a still to be determined foe.
