Man accused of trying to run another vehicle off the road

TOWN OF HARTLAND – A couple contacted the Niagara County Sheriff Department at 6 p.m. Sunday to report that a man in a pickup had tried to run them off the road.

Michael P. Wolf, 43, of Rochester Road, Gasport, was charged by deputies with third-degree criminal mischief, driving on the shoulders, following too closely, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

The victims, who said they knew Wolf, told deputies he had followed them on Hosmer Road, then tailgated and struck them from behind as they headed west on Kerwin Road. After turning south on Bishop Road they said he struck the passenger side, trying to run them off the road. He then allegedly got in front of them and slammed on the brakes causing them to run into the back of his vehicle. The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the front end, passenger side, and rear driver side panel.

Deputies located Wolf in a driveway on Hartland Road. He told them he had called to report a road rage incident, blaming the other vehicle for the damage, but deputies found no record of his call with sheriff or state police.
