OLAF FUB SEZ: According to British poet, dramatist and “Beggar’s Opera” author John Gay, born on this date in 1685, “Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.”

Rock Glen

Bold cowbirds rest on silos

every now and then

tractors rethink the landscape

in the hamlet of Rock Glen

A deep ravine or feeder creek

habitat for rabbit or red hen

captive stones tease the Oatka

subsist plainly in Rock Glen

No room here for hefty holsteins

grazing afar in open pens

Fast tabby cats run rampant

amid old fields of Rock Glen

A schoolhouse long abandoned

by students way back then

now serves penurious sweet peas

unapplauded in Rock Glen

By evening the chug of train cars

across the roadway plays mayhem

with the deep mysterious solace

over undiscovered Rock Glen
