Richard F. Hoos, World War II veteran, insurance agent

Richard F. Hoos of Hamburg, a World War II veteran, active Mason and independent insurance agent, died Friday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, following a long illness. He was 92.

Born on Buffalo’s East Side, Mr. Hoos was a graduate of Seneca High School and briefly attended the University of Buffalo before enlisting in the Army in June 1943. He served in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Hoos was self-employed as an independent insurance agent and was also a consultant training instructor for companies including Merchants Mutual, Lumbermens Insurance Co. and New York Central Mutual Insurance Co.

He was a member of American Legion Post 527 in Hamburg, Harmony Lodge 699 F&AM, Beulah Chapter 176 Order of the Eastern Star, Concord Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Orchard Park IOOF 187. He became a 32nd-degree Mason of the Buffalo Consistory and also belonged to the Ismailia Shrine Temple.

Survivors include a brother, George H.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Loomis, Offers & Loomis Funeral Home, 207 Main St., Hamburg.
