The Jamestown Savings Bank Arena is encouraging schools and youth organizations to take part in its EduSkate program.

For the past month, fourth graders from Falconer Central School have participated in the arena’s inaugural EduSkate program. The arena partnered with the school to integrate the skating program into the school’s physical education curriculum, allowing the students to come for five sessions through June.

The school received grant money from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation to help make EduSkate possible for about 100 students.

“The kids thoroughly enjoyed the program and the opportunity to skate,” said Darin Kennedy, Fenner Elementary physical education teacher. “The quick improvement from lesson one to the fifth was evident in the number of kids that eliminated the skating trainer tool. I think it was a valuable experience for the kids in building self-confidence, esteem, physical strength, and balance.”
