Four local Civil War authors featured at Thursday roundtable

Four local authors will be featured Thursday in a talk about what it’s like to write about the Civil War.

The Buffalo Civil War Roundtable will host the talk, which starts at 7 p.m. in the second-floor assembly hall of the Lancaster Municipal Building, 5423 Broadway at Central Avenue, Village of Lancaster.

Panelists include Scott Scanlon, an editor with The Buffalo News, who will discuss “Heroes from Home,” a four-part series published last year on local heroes of the Battle of Gettysburg; Ed Adamczyk, Village of Kenmore historian who has written extensively for local publications such as the Tonawanda News, Buffalo Spree and Forever Young; Don Mang, author of “One Nation Under God,” a novel that describes the sacrifices and service of the soldiers of the 69th Irish Brigade; and David Smeltz, a retired teacher from Angola and author of a steadily growing series of Civil War-themed novels based on the memoirs of Gen. Sidney Thomas Sawyer.
