Man shot on Pershing is latest city homicide victim

Buffalo police are investigating two East Side homicides involving men who were struck by gunfire.

A 30-year-old man, whose name was not released, was shot and killed around 4 a.m. today outside his residence on Pershing Avenue off Best Street, not far from the intersection of Best and Jefferson Avenue.

Police said the victim and two women were gunned down while outside. The man was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he died. Police said a 40-year-old Buffalo woman was in serious condition and 28-year-old Buffalo woman was in fair condition today, both at ECMC.

Homicide detectives are also still investigating the shooting death of a man in his 30s who was gunned down around 11 p.m. Friday on St. Joseph Avenue, off Walden Avenue. His identity has not yet been released.

Police released sketchy details of both slayings, but asked anyone with information about the crimes to call the city’s confidential TIP-CALL line at 847-2255.

The two unsolved slayings occurred about two miles apart. So far, police have not disclosed whether they believe there is any connection between the two crimes.

According to the latest available figures on the Buffalo Police Department web site, there have been 17 homicides in the city so far this year. Thirteen of the homicides were shootings, and so far, 12 remain unsolved.
