Olmsted documentary to air Friday on WNED

The man whose name has become synonymous with parks, including Buffalo’s most well-known park, is the subject of a documentary airing Friday on WNED.

The program, “Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America,” was co-produced by WNED. It airs at 9 p.m. nationally on PBS stations.

The hourlong film highlights park systems Olmsted created, among them the Buffalo Olmsted Parks – including Delaware Park – New York’s Central Park and the Emerald Necklace in Boston.

“To Olmsted, a park was both a work of art and a necessity for urban life,” WNED said in promotional material. “Olmsted’s efforts to preserve nature created an ‘environmental ethic’ decades before the environmental movement became a force in American politics.”
