Shaw leads BDGA women by shot; Futures tennis doubles final set

Sydney Shaw was holding onto a one-stroke lead following Thursday’s first round of the Buffalo District Golf Association Women’s Individual Championship at Lockport Town and Country Club.

Shaw shot a 77 while Emily Connors was at 78 and Chelsea Dantonio was at 79. Shaw and Dantonio are juniors in high school while Connors will graduate this month.

Former champion, Kim Kaul is only four shots back and tied with Donna Parker at 81. Julie Murphy (83) and Kathy Hunt (92), also past champions, have some ground to make up. The second round begins today at 9 a.m.

Futures doubles final set

The top two seeded doubles teams advanced to the finals on Thursday at the USTA Pro Circuit Men’s $10,000 Futures Tournament at Miller Tennis Center. The No. 2 seeded American team of Jean-Yves Aubone and Connor Smith will face No. 1 Liam Broady and Luke Bambridge of Great Britain in Saturday’s final at 4 p.m.

There were two upsets among the eight singles matches played. No. 5 and No. 6 were eliminated by Americans Nathan Pasha and Jason Tahir.

Singles quarterfinal action begins today at noon with four matches to be played throughout the afternoon. Admission is free.
