LOCKPORT – Despite the urging of her former boss for a jail sentence, Kari A. Butski, the former office manager of Heritage Automotive in Youngstown was placed on three years’ probation Thursday for stealing more than $14,000 from the business between June and December 2012.
Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III told owner Allen Hastings that he sympathizes with his views, but he didn’t think jail was warranted. Butski, 36, of Stephenson Avenue, Niagara Falls, had been allowed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of petit larceny. She presented a bank draft for $7,000 Thursday, nearly half of the restitution tab of $14,578.
Defense attorney James J. Faso Jr. said, “This isn’t an extravagant lifestyle she was living. She was just trying to make ends meet.” Butski, a single mother of two teenagers, had no previous criminal record.
