Highway projects cause temporary detours

Additional nightly closings have been scheduled to accommodate bridge and highway construction work on the Kensington Expressway (Route 33) in Buffalo and Cheektowaga, the state Department of Transportation announced.

Lanes will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly for the rest of this week on the inbound Kensington from Genesee Street to Harlem Road to allow for pavement milling. Beginning Monday, that stretch will closed completely from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for repaving. Detours will be posted.

Nightly closures on the outbound Kensington, which began June 1, will continue for about three more weeks, officials say. The section between the Scajaquada Expressway (Route 198) and Harlem Road will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. Detours on local streets will be marked.
