GCC taps architectural partner for two new buildings

BATAVIA – Genesee Community College’s board of trustees has turned to a longtime architectural partner to design two buildings in the largest expansion in the institution’s more than four-decade history.

A massive College and Community Arts Center and a Student Success Center will begin to rise on the Batavia campus in the summer of 2015. The $19 million additions should be ready for the fall 2016 semester.

JMZ Architects and Planners will design the facilities, their fourth project in 10 years. The Glens Falls firm also produced the Conable Technology building, the Humphrey Student Center and the Steiner Art Gallery.

The 43,000-square-foot events center will be the largest meeting place in the area and will host college and community events such as trade shows and exhibitions. The events center will overlook the college’s athletic fields and will house classrooms, offices, food services and a fitness center.

The 9,000-square-foot student center will put now-scattered offices including admissions, financial aid and career planning under one roof. It will be connected to the college’s two-story technology wing.
