Lancaster’s Dantonio second in state golf

Chelsea Dantonio (Lancaster) fell just short of state champion status as she finished second in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships, which concluded on Sunday.

Dantonio shot a 74 in the opening round Saturday, putting her 2 over par on SUNY Delhi’s par 72 course. The round put her in a tie for first place heading into Sunday’s round.

She shot a 75 on Sunday, but fell victim to a 3-under 69 round by eighth-grader Lindsay May of Section III Auburn.

Sarah Godfrey of Depew was the next-highest Section VI finisher with a 12-over performance to finish ninth overall.
