DUNKIRK – A special “Footprints” Award was given to Dick and Carmen Gillman of Fredonia for their many years of service to the area.

The Gillman’s accepted the award, which was started in the memory of long-time philanthropist George Weaver, at the annual meeting of the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation held Monday at the north county campus of Jamestown Community College.

Over 100 people attended the meeting and reception that followed to honor the couple. Dick Gillman, a retired geology professor at SUNY Fredonia, and his wife, Carmen, performed at hundreds of events in the area. They were instrumental in working on the restoration of the Fredonia Opera House and sponsored the Folk in Fredonia Concert series held for the last decade at the Opera House.
