An effort to promote transit received encouragement from Mayor Byron W. Brown today when he proclaimed Thursday as “Dump the Pump Day” during a City Hall ceremony.

Joined by Kimberley A. Minkel, executive director of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, the mayor referred to a national program asking commuters to ride public transportation and save money, instead of driving to work in a car.

The program was started in 2006, and he noted this year’s slogan of “Dump the pump; save money; ride transit.”
