Lockport man charged with forcible theft of shoes

LOCKPORT – City police arrested a Town of Lockport man Saturday and charged him with the May 23 theft of a man’s shoes while the victim was wearing them.

Akeem R. Ross, 18, of Strauss Road, was charged with third-degree robbery and petit larceny. He was apprehended in a traffic stop shortly after 2 p.m. on High Street, after which Ross also was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

The robbery victim, a Pine Street man, said Ross was one of two men who jumped out the back seat of a Nissan Altima and confronted him May 23 as he was walking through a parking lot in the Lockport Plaza on South Transit Street.

The victim said Ross was angry that the man allegedly had given up evidence against Ross’ cousin, Quincy Byrd, regarding the theft of an iPhone. Byrd is scheduled to appear today in Niagara County Court.

The Pine Street man said that after he refused a demand from Ross to surrender the shoes, Ross grabbed his left leg and forcibly removed both of his shoes before driving off with them in the car.
