West Side Rowing makes finals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a tight race, the Juniors Women’s Youth Four with coxswain from the West Side Rowing Club finished fourth out of six boats in their repechage heat Saturday at the USRowing Youth National Championships.

West Side finished just 6.4 seconds behind first-place St. Louis, which won in 7:51.489.

All six crews in the repechage finished within seven seconds and a length of each other.

West Side will complete its competition today in the Finals.

West Side is among 26 fours that qualified for the national regatta.

Rowing for West Side were stroke Emily Radziwon (Orchard Park), Ashley Johnson (Clarence), Emily Evans (City Honors), Kendal Smith (Park School), and coxswain Claire Conrad (Buffalo Seminary). They are led by head coach Justin Farrington.

The West Siders finished fourth in their six-team heat on Friday.

The boat qualified for the national regatta by placing first among club teams and second overall at the New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships in Saratoga Springs last month.
