Lockport parolee charged with 2013 burglary

LOCKPORT – A man who was paroled Nov. 26 from the state prison system’s drug treatment facility was arraigned Thursday on an indictment accusing him of burglarizing a Lockport home nine days before he was sentenced.

James E. Stahl, 46, of Scovell Street, Lockport, pleaded not guilty to second-degree burglary and petit larceny. The crime, in which a large container of coins was stolen from a home on Grove Avenue in Lockport, occurred June 17.

On June 26, Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas sent Stahl to the drug treatment facility. He had pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary in connection with the May 2011 theft of $4,350 worth of electric heaters and a band saw from a residential garage on Walnut Street in Lockport. Stahl wasn’t charged with the Grove Avenue burglary until after his release from prison.

Assistant District Attorney Joel M. Grundy said a neighbor saw Stahl emerging from the home weighed down by a heavy backpack.
