The House of Representatives has passed a measure that includes an effort to keep the City of Niagara Falls from losing $2.2 million in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program.

The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Bill was amended and approved Tuesday night, Rep. Brian Higgins’ office said Wednesday.

HUD has been looking at altering a policy that would affect cities like the Falls whose population has dropped below 50,000. Such municipalities would have had to compete for funding instead of automatically receiving it, under what the agency has been considering.
