Car strikes, kills Angelica woman, dog

A grandmother pushing her granddaughter in a stroller was killed Tuesday evening when she was struck while crossing a traffic circle in Angelica, State Police said today.

Cynthia L. Polanowski, 53, of Angelica was pushing her 2-year-old granddaughter in a stroller and was walking with Robyn White, no age available, of Angelica, who was walking a dog, police said. They were crossing Park Circle when she was struck by a car driven by Shayne Ellsessor, 50, also of Angelica.

Polanowski was rushed to St. James Hospital and was pronounced dead soon after her arrival.

The 2-year-old girl suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said. White had minor injuries. The dog died at the scene.

Ellsessor was not injured. Police were investigating the incident but said there was no indication that the driver was intoxicated or impaired, nor was she using a cell phone at the time of the crash.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Allegany Sheriff’s Office and the Angelica Fire Department.
