Fire causes $50,000 damage at Lockport Delphi plant

LOCKPORT – Fire caused by a ruptured hydraulic fluid line did an estimated $50,000 damage to an industrial heating unit Tuesday at the Delphi plant on Upper Mountain Road, Assistant Chief Joseph A. Morello said.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury when he was exposed to some dry fire extinguishing chemicals. He remained on duty; Morello declined to identify him. Also, Morello said a plant security guard was treated at the Delphi medical unit for smoke inhalation.

The fire was reported at 9:41 a.m. in a heat-aging oven in Building 8. Firefighters arrived four minutes later and brought the fire under control in 12 minutes, Morello said.
