NIAGARA FALLS – Public officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Monday morning for the third phase of a $41 million train station in the city’s North End.

Construction on the Niagara Falls International Railway Station and Intermodal Transportation Center, on a site near the Whirlpool Bridge just north of Ontario Street, between Main and Whirlpool streets, will begin in the coming weeks.

Scrufari Construction, the firm awarded a $22.7 million construction contract in April, has told the city it believes it may complete the project by the end of 2015, said Thomas J. DeSantis, the city’s senior planner.
