Where we live: Lancaster

The town Planning Board granted preliminary approval last week to a large apartment complex proposed for 5828 Broadway by Young Development of Elma.

Planning members attached several conditions to the Edgewater Apartments proposal, which calls for five, three-story buildings containing 26 upscale units per building. In all, there would be 130 multi-family units and a 3,092-square-foot clubhouse building.

The board noted the large size of the buildings, which would have garages, as well. It suggested a more upscale entrance be designed, possibly featuring stone pillars and a split-rail fence.

Landscaping details, appropriate signage, clarifying environmental conservation details, a guardrail by the nearby creek and a connection to the eastern section of the property are additional conditions.

This week:

• The Village Board meets at 6 p.m. Monday for a work session, followed by its regular meeting at 7, in the Municipal Building, 5423 Broadway.

• The Lancaster School Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday in the former Central Avenue School, 149 Central Ave.

• A special meeting of the Village Board, to discuss the West Main Street project, begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Building.

• The Lancaster Area Chamber of Commerce will host its business awards luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

Lancaster Town Supervisor Dino Fudoli will help present the awards, which honor businesses and individuals in Lancaster, Depew and Elma.

The three business awards are based on revenue growth, innovative products/services, exemplary customer service, volunteerism and demonstration of economic support in the community.

Individual awards recognize a Chamber member employee who contributes to building a better business community through volunteering, innovation, customer service, community service or collaboration.
