GOP has hurt the country far more than Democrats
Four events haunt and define the contemporary Republican Party: the resignations of Vice President Spiro Agnew and President Richard Nixon, the deaths of 240 Marines in Lebanon during the presidency of Ronald Reagan, the attacks on 9/11 under President George W. Bush and the second most serious American financial collapse under Bush. These four events severely damaged our country in the last 50 years and set the table for the current malaise our country now faces.
The resignation of a president and vice president deeply hurts trust in government. When our highest elected leaders commit crimes, the very core of law and order is destroyed. Reagan left the dead Marines in Lebanon without seeking justice. Finally, 9/11 and the 2008 fiscal doomsday sent the nation into a tailspin. Trillions of dollars were spent and tens of thousands of lives destroyed.
Until the Republican Party comes to terms with these self-inflicted tragedies, it will remain a millstone around the neck of the nation. The current whining by Republicans about Benghazi and the NSA cannot compare to these four mammoth mistakes.
