Tips for drivers on what to do if you hit a wild animal

The Erie County Sheriff Traffic Bureau offered these guidelines on what to do if you hit a bear or other potentially dangerous wild animal with your car.

1. Check yourself and your passengers for any injuries.

2. Call 911

3. Stay in the vehicle unless there is a fire.

4. Do not approach the animal for any reason.

5. Wait for law enforcement to arrive to check the condition of the animal.
