Sex offender faces 11 years for video with teen girl

LOCKPORT – Darwin J. Fifield Jr., a Level 1 sex offender, spent Valentine’s Day making a sex video with a 16-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty to two felonies in connection with that incident Friday.

Fifield, 35, of Church Street, Lockport, admitted to third-degree rape and attempted use of a child in a sexual performance as a sexually motivated felony, and faces as long as 11 years in state prison when he is sentenced Aug. 29 by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas.

Fifield was arrested Feb. 28 on the statutory rape count for the incident, which occurred in Royalton.

Deputy District Attorney Holly E. Sloma said if Fifield had not pleaded guilty, she would have sought an indictment on those charges as well as others involving the same girl.

Fifield has a track record of sex with underage girls. The former Gasport resident impregnated his 16-year-old babysitter in 2011, when he was living in a Newfane mobile home park. He was placed on probation for sexual misconduct, but in January 2013, Farkas gave him a year in jail for violating the terms of probation by not obtaining sex offender counseling.

Also Friday, Farkas was astonished to learn that a man pleading guilty to possession of child pornography is married with two daughters.

“This is very disturbing, that you enjoy this stuff with girls the age of your children,” Farkas told Eric A. Freberg, 34, of Dorwood Park, Wilson.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child as a sexually motivated felony, and risks 14 years in prison when he returns to court Aug. 29.

Freberg said he has been in Lockport drug court for two years, since being placed on probation for driving while intoxicated, and has been in sex offender counseling since he was arrested in April 2013. Sloma said police found about 9,000 images and videos of child porn on Freberg’s home computer.

In another child porn case Friday, Brent J. Manz, 30, of 71st Street, Niagara Falls, was given six months in jail by County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III to be followed by nine and a half years on probation.

Manz pleaded guilty to attempted promoting a sexual performance by a child, attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

He downloaded child porn, engaged in online chats with an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl, and tried to physically prevent police from seizing his computer when they arrived with a search warrant March 18, 2013.

Also Friday, Yasin Abdu-Sabur, 30, of Pierce Avenue, Niagara Falls, pleaded not guilty to first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, charges stemming from an alleged incident with an adult woman in the Falls April 15.

Abdu-Sabur is being held as a parole violator after serving time for a 2012 attempted burglary conviction.

He also was convicted of another burglary in Erie County in 2006.
