The North Collins School Board, which is preparing for an independent audit of district finances, met Tuesday with the auditor who will oversee the work.
John Schiavone, an external auditor with Lumsden & McCormick, said auditors will review several portions of the district’s finances and encouraged an “open line of communication” with the board.
The School Board is considering adding a nursing position. Interim Superintendent Joan Thomas said the licensed practical nurse or registered nurse will assist a student with special needs, primarily during bus rides. Thomas noted that the district is required by state education law to add the position.
Officials must decide what type of nurse and negotiate a salary before creating the post and advertising for it.
In other action, the board:
• Abolished a part-time music teacher position due to declining enrollment.
• Approved the creation of a full-time special-education position for prekindergarten through sixth grade.
