Cheektowaga Democrats announce endorsements

The Cheektowaga Democratic Committee has endorsed candidates for town and state office, with primary elections likely in three of the four races.

Committee Chairman Frank Max said Monday that endorsement votes were made during a meeting last week. Of the 194 town committee members, close to 130 participated in the voting he said.

Christine L. Adamczyk was endorsed for Town Board, for the seat vacated by Charlie Markel following his conviction on a misdemeanor charge related to unemployment insurance fraud. Adamczyk is a member of the Cheektowaga Central School Board.

Dennis T. Gorski, a former Erie County executive, was endorsed for town justice. Fellow Democrat Melissa A. Reese, an attorney who works part time as a town prosecutor, also has declared her candidacy, setting up a primary election in September.

Incumbent Town Justice Dennis A. Delano Sr. hasn’t announced his intentions.

Camille Brandon was endorsed for the 143rd Assembly District seat vacated by Dennis H. Gabryszak in January. Brandon works in the Erie County Clerk’s Office and was an assistant to Gorski when he was county executive.

Brandon will face off in a primary race against Mark Mazurek, brother of political operative Kristy L. Mazurek, who declared his candidacy late last month.

State Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy won the endorsement of the town committee. He faces a primary challenge, for another term representing the 63rd Senate District, from Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant, who received the endorsement of the Erie County Democratic Committee.
