Police car struck while responding to a call

A Buffalo police car was struck on its way to a call early Saturday evening, sending a police officer to the the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Buffalo Police Accident Investigation Unit is handling the incident, which occurred about 5 p.m. at Elmwood Avenue and Grote Street, near the Great Arrow plaza. A vehicle was responding to a call with lights and sirens when it was struck by another vehicle coming off Grote, said Buffalo spokesman Michael DeGeorge.

The officer was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment. There were no charges as of Saturday evening, DeGeorge said.

The police officer and the driver of the other car have not been identified.
